    Default crackdown on LED lights

a guy at work took his motorbike in for WOF and was failed because he had replaced the original rubbish headlight bulb with an LED one he bought from Super Cheap. He was told there are junk/low budget LEDs imported (from guess where) and some of them have different dimensions from the base of the bulb to where the filament thingy is, which changes the light characteristics. So LTNZ has thrown down a blanket rule that sez no LED bulbs are acceptable , unless they came as OEM on that car / bike /trailer/ This includes indicators and brake lights too apparently. Just letting you guys know in case you run in to problems. This is how the law stands as of today onwards.

Lucky they weren't low budget/ junk tires, otherwise they would have banned all tires on cars too!

That seems crazy, sure there are plenty of crappy lights/bulbs out there, but if a light meets the height and pattern requirement what is the problem?
Unless they are talking about putting a HID/LED in a housing that isn't designed for it, that can do some weird things.
    Thanks for the heads up.

Yeah I think it's aimed at LED bulbs put in to headlights etc that originally had a regular H4 type bulb . still sucks though.
